Terry Porter is Out

According to multiple media outlets, Phoenix Suns head coach Terry Porter will be fired this week. Media outlets are reporting that Porter could be fired as early as tomorrow. Suns general manager is quoted as saying "We haven't made a decision." The Suns management is holding a meeting tonight to determine Porter's future. You can tell from this statement that Porter is a goner.

Terry Porter never really stood a chance. He tried to change the Suns from their fast paced offensive style into a defensive oriented team. Steve Kerr and Amar'e Stoudamire never brought into his system. Porter has recently tried to switch the Suns back to a faster tempo team again. This hasn't worked either with the Suns falling to 9th place in the West. The truth is that the Suns are too old and not talented enough anymore to win a championship. They do not match up well with teams like the Celtics, Spurs, Lakers and Cavs. These issues are not all Terry Porter's fault. He deserved better. Assistant coach Alvin Gentry will take over the coaching duties.
